MEND IT! Is a project involving three Nordic illustrators: Zarah Juul, Urte Boguslauskaite and Ebba V. Erikzon (Denmark, Norway and Sweden/UK). They have worked on the way illustration as fabric pattern inform more creative ways of repairing clothes through the stimulation of users’ new practices.

Each element of the pattern has been though according to the sustainable message it could deliver either visually through mending patches or with an additional written message as prints on organic certified tote bags or PVC free stickers.

Here are the different messages created and their explanation:

Zarah Juul – Denmark. “I love a good story above all. I draw, write and exhibit hand drawn magical characters and monsters. I have worked 10 years in the game industry, making games and creating concepts for kids and puerile souls“.

Ebba V.Erikson – Sweden/UK. “I am a creative director and freelance illustrator originally from Sweden living and working in England”.

‘Climate of change’ – When we share the same values with our peers and act collectively towards a more sustainable lifestyle, we can achieve a stronger and faster impact.

‘Beyond apPEARances’ – To buy/consume sustainably requires conscious thinking: where does the product come from, how was it manufactured and where will it end once disposed of?


Urte Boguslauskaite – Norway. “I am a 2D animator/illustrator currently based in Oslo, Norway. I graduated from Middlesex university in 2019 from which I gained a bachelors degree in animation. Ever since I’ve been working as a freelance artist, working with various media”.

‘Stepping stones’ – Step by step we create a more sustainable lifestyle, by making greener and better-informed decisions regarding what we buy/consume.

Bee the change’ – Change starts with each and every one of us. Even the smallest decision we take towards making more sustainable choices brings about positive change for every living creature on earth.
